Yatra.com and MakeMyTrip.com are two popular websites helping customers to book railway, airline, bus & hotel tickets. Both these websites give you the comfort of ordering tickets from home with just a click of mouse.
Let’s see a comparison of both these companies:
a.) Makemytrip.com started in 2000 ( Founded by Deepak Kalra in the year 2000). Yatra seems to have made a late entry in the world of online ticketing. Nevertheless, Yatra.com has been creating enough waves since its inception.
b.) Yatra.com offers the following booking services : airline, railway and bus tickets and reserve hotel rooms and car rentals throught call center/internet. makemytrip.com offers all the above services except railway & bus. However maketrip.com visitors also have the option of Car rentals in popular Indian cities
c.) I ran both the websites on firefox ( sorry Microsoft I’m not an IE fan ) both the websites have pretty much the same look and feel except for the fact that Yatra’s homepage seems more dominate by text/content. Perhaps Boman Irani is Yatra’s brand ambassador. Both the websites have made pitches for “holidays” both domestic & international. Yatra.com’s navigation menu ( not exactly a menu but clickable links at the top) are better from the usability perspective.
d.) Makemytrip.com has two irritating links of “We are hiring” & “Corporate level”. Two blinking bright colored links which are irritating to the eyes. ( seems they’ve used Java Script.)
e.) Yatra.com has a toll-free customer care number which was not evident on makemytrip.com’s website. (Is it there or not ? I couldn’t see a search-tab either. I’m not sure but perhaps “online ticketing websites” don’t need a search function despite, the extensive pages in the website.
f.) makemytrip.com does need people as is evident from its recruitment section. Yatra.com on the other hand has a couple of jobs in the tech. domain at its Gurgaon office. Seems makemytrip.com is on a hiring spree for people from all domains ( definitely some customer care execs. ) I didn’t google much on makemytrip’s hiring plans though. Yatra on the other hand seems to have enough people on board and wants a couple of (atleast) techies.
g .) On a 256kbps connection a search for Delhi-Pune round airtickets took 2 seconds on makemytrip.com um…. and on Yatra.com this took more than sometime. ( I actually had enough time to bring my cup of coffee.) Finally, this was the result I saw on my computer screen.

#Yatra.com is the most terrible travel booking site.
I had booked 2 rooms in Pelling. Later on due to change of plans I requested to just shift my reservation by 2 more days in the same hotel for same rooms.
The hotel owner had provided a written approval of this change to me and Yatra at no extra cost.
– After this Yatra.com came up to me saying the Hotel owner had rejected the requested.
– Post this intimation from #Yatra.com, the hotel owner openly flushed this false claim from #Yatra.com and clearly re-stated his approval in words in a conference with both me and #Yatra.com representative.
– 3 hours after all this, #Yatra.com again comes up to me saying Hotel has denied the modification request.
This is the last time I used #Yatra.com, never again will I use this travel booking site.
I am sharing my experience with all fellow travellers and travel lovers.
If you are using #Yatra.com, do it at your own risk. #Yatra.com only understands money, and won’t help you out in any case; rather they can falsify your statements & claims.

Issue
I booked 2 tickets through MMT for 28 October’16. I called indigo up for rescheduling it to 22 October’16 they asked me to call MMT for refund related queries to my bank account. I then called MMT to proceed refund of Rs. 1400 Approx. and Rs 6667 for both the tickets to my account. MMT executive asked me to cancel my 28 October’16 booking through the website I asked will it affect my 22 October’16 journey ?? she said when you are not travelling on that date it has nothing to do with your current booking. I followed the steps told by her she asked me to cancel my 28 October’16 booking i got the mail for 28 October flight cancellation as discussed with her. After 4 hours i got a message from them that my 22 October’16 booking stands cancelled.
Can Anyone tell me why the hell they have cancelled my 22 October’16 booking on their own when I have not ask for.

The booking from yatra.com was never confirmed – though the email confirmation clearly mentioned it. And the amount was charged.
Needed to buy new tickets at the airport. The airline had no information about the bookings.

I had to book my ticket through makemytrip.com in nov 2011 and even I was charged FTF of about 100$ I realized that after 2 months and when I called then they asked me to resolve it with my bank and they couldnt help it.

MakeMyTrip is an Indian travel site who just thought it would be cool to run the same business in US without having any idea about US laws or customers. Also as many suggested they are cheaters and I would highly recommend to not buy any tickets from them.
I bought a ticket from my Mother and I was quoted a price in US $ but charged in INR leading to FTF from my bank. They promised to refund this fee in 7-10 days but after 15 phone calls and 20 emails I am still struggling with them. They ahev started asking for bank statement and other things like conference call with the bank representative that violates the privacy of the customer. They also dont have any insurance to protect the customer privacy so don’t be surprised if you entire contact details are posted on some marketing sites or misued by some anti-social elements.

I did get the refund…but not on the next day…get your facts right…also refer to records to understand what my concern really was instead of trying to be so smart.
I was not concerned about getting my money back…It was an urgent trip and I wanted a confirmed booking. Moreover, I was willing to pay to get a confirmed booking. You guys promised a callback which never came.
My question to you is why commit in the first place when you cannot deliver on your promises? Check your call center records…I called up several times to get this sorted but to no avail.
I had to make my own arrangements at the last moment.

I tried booking a flight ticket through MakeMyTrip.com yesterday. It was an urgent booking which did not go through but they charged my card against a booking id NF2513317188332….wow…they have the audacity to charge the card, generate the booking ID but say that ‘the booking is not confirmed’. The message displayed on the website after the payment page said that ‘due to unavailability of seats your tickets cannot be confirmed’. I was zapped to see that the seats and the same fare that I was trying to book was still available even after several hours. Called up customer care but did not get any help…they are horrible, unprofessional people. They said that due to a ‘technical error’ I was still able to see the particular fare online but the seats were actually not available. I wasted almost 4 hours on phone with them to sort this out….They promised a callback which never came…They are conducting business in a shady and most unprofessional manner…misleading the customers and then not even bothering to assist them. I would not suggest anyone to book through them…Please consider other travel companies and do not ever try MakeMyTrip…You’ll just be wasting your time and money….these guys are least bothered…I guess they have more on their plate than they can chew which has made them unprofessional and highly irresponsible. I wish I could also paste all the screenshots here that I took to prove what a shady company they are….The so called ‘special fare’ is still very much available online and they are still fooling & harassing countless customers through their ‘ever so inefficient website.’

Please beware of Makemytrip. Here is my worst history.
I booked 3 tickets from bangalore to my Trivandrum for my grandama’s death.
I booked on Jan 13th for 10.30pm flight around 11 am
the same day.
makemy trip says its confirned and they agreed i will receive etickets with in 2 hours thru email.
i did not receive any mails till 5 pm even after following up heavily with makemytrip. Then I asked makemytrip whether I have atleast teh ticket confirmed, so that I can check with Jetairways.
They said I can talk to Jetairways once I reach airpot. I called Jetairways they said nothing is booked for my name. I was shocked. I asked them whether tickets are available, they said its available. SO I went and cancelled the ticket and booked thru jetwairways. Anyways same cost the ticket was. Note: my flight is in 10.30 pm and makemytrip never repsonded even after I said I need to travel to aiport which will take nearly 2 hrs from my place. They made me frustrated heavily.
Next another issue regarding payments. They took the money for 3 tickets, after cancelling they need to refund. they refuncded also the next day. I was happy that atleast they refunded on time. But sudennly today they debited 9000 from my account. I dont know whether and what for this is deducted. I am still fighting for my amount.
Please note this is for every on who reads this. Please dont go for makemytrip. There is no sure for your money and eticket. better choose some airline website. not the vendor sites.

Yatra.com is by far the worst company I have ever had the displeasure of calling. It is simply the worst. I have been on the phone with many representatives for SIX hours trying to resolve a payment issue and non-confirmation of a roundtrip i purchased from Goa to HYD for Diwali holiday. Each person I spoke to said that I hadn’t paid, and I told them over and over again that the full payment amount was deducted from my bank account. I even sent them an email with the relevant entries. Now they’re saying that’s not enough and they won’t even give me a refund unless I take a screenshot of the statement and email it to me. They don’t seem to bear any responsibility for their own actions and now I am being forced to pay double the price to get to HYD because of their own incompetence. Yatra.com is the WORST. DON’T EVER USE IT. My issue is still unresolved six hours and COUNTLESS calls later.

Hi Rita, MakeMyTrip is very reliable when it comes to their holiday packages. They offer all 3 meals, good and comfortable accommodation, cover pretty much what there is to see in a place. In the end, they make sure you go back with a smile on your face. Though they may not give you you vouchers on time, be sure that you will get it atleast 24hrs before departure. On the whole, MakeMyTrip gives you a wonderful experience. I have been on their Amazing Ladakh and I can tell that with confidence. Overall, 4.5 on 5. MakeMyTrip is what we need.

I am having a pretty pathetic experience with yatra.com. They came with a promotional of Discover the world and since I found it interested went a head and purchased it. In meanwhile planning for a travel in the next week. They told to get the voucher no. it will take 48 hours, which I waited for and did not come through. My ticket booking was getting delayed and ticket prices are going higer by day. When I asked for explanation, they asked to speak with shiftthoughts.com which they are dealing with. I spoke with them, they are telling it is due to some technical reason they are not able to provide the voucher no. and all possible reasons. Even yatra couldnt moderate on this issue and I am not able to get back the money or voucher on time, which I required. So I am going ahead and buying tickets in makemytrip.cm

Booking Order Number : 31051111467 and 31051112687. My name is Joseph from Chennai. I wanted to take my mom from Chennai to Vizag to visit her nun sister who is 90. Then I wanted to take both to Kolkota to visit another nun sister and then return back along the same route. As this was their dream before any one dies, I took the initiative to spend and take them comfortably by flights. I depended on Yatra.com (my first and last mistake).
I booked all the tickets for 41K by looking into the cheapest and most convenient flights. I got the booking reference number and the money was taken from the bank. Yesterday, I call them to find out how to get the e-tickets, and they told me that they had issued a full refund for the bookings due to a technical issue. I told them to make those bookings active as my plans were as planned. They told me later that the prices are higher now and I will need to spend 49K for the same flights. I did not want to see a heart break for the 90 year old, so I was desperate as well.
Yatra agents were saying that they understand the problem but cannot help. I changed my tone and asked them for a proper reason for the issue, and told them that this causes emotional problems to the aged, and I wanted to talk to the higher authorities. They said that even the higher authorities will say the same thing. I said that I am going to take the matter to RTI.
Then they tried to find some lame excuse by saying that the card did not go through. I said, if the card did not go through, how did you all receive my money which you are trying to refund? They went “Mouthshut” for some time, and then told me that they will call back within one hour with a superior agent. I waited and waited and no one called.
So, I had to make fresh bookings to make my aunt’s dreams come alive. The moral of the incidence – Never depend on Yatra, they may cancel your tickets if they feel you got them for a cheaper price and then make you pay more. NEVER TRUST YATRA, go directly to the concerned airlines and book them directly, that is what I did.
Yatra.com which is an online travel company is a big fraud. I was cheated by them when I booked an air ticket from US to India. Just 3 days before my scheduled departure they informed me that my reservation was canceled by airline because yatra.com didn’t provide them some info. even when there is no fault on my side they didn’t refund me anything. I’m going to file a law suit against them in US soon.please beware of this web site. search about this company online and you will find lots of complaints about fraud and cheating.

I travel a lot by air and each time, i book the flights online. My personal experience says that YATRA SUCKS!!! make my trip is far better managed and gives better results. Flight rates are more or less the same on both. So yatra is as good as mmt as long as you dont have to modify or cancel your booking. If that is the case, then yatra will make you go mad. Makemytrip is much better as far as cancellations are concerned. I am surely never going to use yatra ever again..

I have had a terrible experience with yatra.com. I booked domestic flights online which I later needed to cancel due to a change in schedule.
When I booked the flights the confirmation email from Yatra.com informed me that the flight was refundable and I would be charged 750rs per person and a 200rs fee to cancel the booking (amounting to a total £23). Fine I thought. Until I tried to cancel the booking.
Yatra.com wanted to charge a total of £40, made up of what they call ‘Yatra profit’, airline tax and Yatra service fee. Nowhere on their site or on the booking confirmation were these additional charges advertised. I queried these charges and asked them to refund what was owed to me.
They seem to be rather illiterate at Yatra.com HQ as I keep receiving the same email telling me the charge includes a Yatra profit, despite me telling them they can’t just whack on charges however they feel unless they were advertised at the time of booking.
I’ve reached the end of my tether with this company and have now disputed the charges with my credit card company who have informed me they’ve received 100’s of complaints about Yatra.com.
I would highly recommend you stay well away from Yatra.com unless you enjoy getting ripped off.

I think MakeMyTrip and Yatra both are big players in travel industry and there are thousands of happy customers of these sites. There may be some exceptions, but their allover performance if very good. Besides these Cleartrip is also providing great travel solutions.

makemytrip really sucks .. They are very good until things are good. Once there is any issues/problem they are useless. I am telling from my personal experience. We had got 6 tickets together booked via makemytrip and the flight got cancelled and they did a mess out of the rebooking .. The agents were unresponsive and very irresponsible. All our plans and comnnecting flight/train tickets were in a mess. The plan that we did before 2 months to make a smooth travel ended up with a fiasco .. many hours of phone calles with the agents and .. I can make a movie out of it .. Seriously.
Having a good brand or advertising on TV does not make a good company .. You need to be a good company and make your customer happy .. Automatically you will be a very good company .

yatra.com people are just fraud. they dupe people. my hubby made online booking of flight from delhi to sydney and paid 25% of payment through credit card. next day he issued check of rest of the payment . he daily enquired the status abt check but these people are so irresponsible that they do not respond. frequent calls were made on customer care numbers but they always kept our calls on hold. or they simply said we will inform you. we even mailed to members of borad of directors expressing negligence of these people. but everything in vain. they lingered on the process till 30 days. n after dat they said, your booking has now expired because you havnt made rest of payment within 30 days. we were duped of 11000.
so people beware of this site. they are intentionally doing all this. even the office address given on their site does nt exist.

Then they later tell me that nothing was booked but my credit card was still charged. Now I am stuck having to pay a higher price (from another website) because it too close to the travel date. They have horrible customer service. After being on hold for a total of 2 hours they literally hung up on me. Didn’t say bye or or sorry just hung up on me. DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE.

Yatra, a relatively new entrant to the Indian travel scene, which is spending huge sums on marketing, and regularly runs enticing promotions, is likely to cost you more than you think, without you knowing it.
I recently purchased flights from them, and then when I came to make a repeat purchase, signed up for one of their special offers. The small print of this special offer gave me the option of paying part of the amount later, but instead Yatra demanded extra money at the time of payment. The end result: they took money from my card without my authority, and ignore emails sent to them querying their actions. My likely next step is to go to a lawyer, but how many organisations or busy individuals will do this, if the even notice the over-charging?
So, if you think have been tricked by Yatra (and they will try to deceive you into thinking that you, or someone else is to blame), please send me a short email, and depending upon the response, my company may take further action, with a view to forcing Yatra to modify their behaviour, or pay financial compensation to everyone they have mis-treated.

I had a confirmed booking and my money was deducted immediately. But when I turned up at the airport, the airline informed me that no reservation had been made. I managed to book another ticket at the spot and tried chasing Yatra.com for my refund.
LOUSIEST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER. I was promised a refund 3 times and I am still chasing it a 3 weeks later. They can’t find my reference number, their telephone lines do not work, they promise a call-back and nothing happens, etc, etc, etc.
To add insult to injury, I spent about 25£ in roaming charges. Nobody has apologised or agreed to compensate me for the hassle, expense and stress this sorry affair has cost me.
So, don’t book with Yatra.com if you want stress free travel.Wish I had checked them up online before I used their website. There are loads of irate customers.

Never book your tickets thru “MAKE MY TRIP”
It has one of the worst customer service representatives. They are just the call centers attitude which we watch in movies – just having fun with one other, keep the customers call on stand, not even placing on hold.
IF you ever feel you didnt receive your ticket within 3 days – then think that you lost your money and donated to someone else.

* Yatra has no concern for their customers* My experience with Yatra has been otherwise Big names like Reliance and TV18 etc does not necessarily mean that the service rendered would be world clsss. While it looks nice to see things on their Portal, on the ground reality is different ! I had done Hotel bookings thru them this April for a family holiday in May and to my surprise even after the money was 100%charged in advance to my CC, I found the Hotels refusing to confirm the bookings. On notifying the anomaly to them, an11th hour attempt by Yatra yielded result and they found a hotel some 145 kms away from my destination ! Finally I had to search a hotel which was reluctantly booked by yatra but was still some 20kms from the downtown area and I had to pay thru my nose everyday for an up-down travel by taxi. One one such occasion we al had to walk 3 kms and face humiltion at the hand of Taxi drivers and seek help from police to avert a situation.
In the other case, I was offered a very dingy cottage (one can call it a servant room) at a resort instead of a room booked and confirmed thru them. After hours long arguments, I had to check in at another hotel and pay thru my nose.
The very purpose of going on a vacation with family, with advance bookings done, is to enjoy a hassle free vacation but that is the last of the concerns with the people at Yatra. Till date, despite so many reminders, Yatra has not even bothered to call back and apologise. Their sales manager Arpit Seth has no empathy for the poor clients. Net net, my vacation was royally sc***d and my family keeps cursing me for no fault of mine.

My flight was cancelled in Feb 2008.
They would not believe me that the flight did not fly and insisted that I went to the airport to get the cancellation in writing. Meanwhile I had to take a train to get back to delhi to catch my connection. I have had to get the airline to e mail the confirtmation of the cancellation.
5 months later still have NOT received refund of fight despite repeated promises and international phone calls.
YATRA give travel sites a bad name.
I will deal directly with airlines in future.

Never ever book you rinternational holidays at Yatra. I’ve travelle dthrough makemytrip and Yatra. Everything was done within 3 days including Visa , tickets, hotels to Singapore by makemytrip. Howeevr, I need to make at least 10 calls to get a single reply from yatra guys. They just sent a mail saying send your passport to this address. Can you beleive it – wiout any information or other thing, can you send a passport to any arbitrary address.
I booked my tickets thrgh yatra and they were comparitively reasonable and am planning to book my whole trip with them

Hey good comparion. I personally prefer a nice clean UI that loads quicklyo on my wireless data card connection. Availability of best prices is the top criteria though. Did my own analysis few days ago.

The interface on bookcheapest.com is especially nice– you can select which airports, flight time, and it shows you how the price fluctuates to help you better deduce which concessions are worth it. I always check a few sites before purchasing and found that I can assure myself a good price by purchasing about 4 weeks in advance of my flight. If you purhcase too early, fares are often much higher.

Yatra service is awful. I had done a booking (for abroad trip) and cancelled it alter. The money has nto been refunded even after 4 months. I am abroad and helpless. I call their customer service and they keep foolign me .I am absolutly fed up with Yatra service .
I used to handle corporate account in Makemytrip and here are my reviews:
1. Slow process and over all very messy
2. Rates are not competitive
3. Needs hell lot of improvement on Customer service / relations
4. Right hand does not know what left hand is doing
5. makemytrip lacks leadership in management
6. no autonomy given to the managers
Ezeego is very slowww when you go and submit the ICICI credit card information. I tried many times but it is so slow that I can take a nap while filling the information.
Yatra is better than Makemytrip. Makemytrip is expensive and does not have any offers. One of my friend in the travel industry said that Makemytrip is more of a “Jhola-Chap” rather than professional.
PLEASE DO NOT USE MAKEMYTRIP.COM. I booked flights to bangalore and they swiped/charged my credit card THREE times the price listed online. When I called their customer service (which sucks btw), they refused to look into the matter and said that I must have booked the ticket thrice for same people same time flight…I could not believe what I heard from them. I tried to speak with the manager/supervisor ( they give stupid names Henzing, dubsig.etc) but even they could not help me in this matter. I DID NOT GET SORRYfor their faulty website instead I PAID Rs 900 the Cancellation charge for each of the bookings. I have been using yatra and other websites to book air tickets but never experienced such problems.
I heard from my friends that makemytrip sometimes charges more than the what is on the confirmation while booking hotels.

Ticket fare prices: I think Yatra gave a price for 2,085/- which I think is acceptable, but not cheap. They had a discount of 15% for American Express Card members for Jet Airways flight. The prices they offered were for Indigo.
Flight Options: Yatra gave only 4 options.
Destinations available: Yatra gets good marks on this. They had some destinations that I had not even heard of.
User Friendliness: The biggest drawback of Yatra was, it was not user friendly at all. There was too much clutter and it was quite confusing. They really need to improve and make the whole process much simpler. Being one of the oldest in this business they still carry the look and feel of web1.0.
Others service: They offer most of the other services that a traveler may require and hence good marks on that front.

Ticket fare prices: Ezeego offered a price for 2,103/-similar to previous one. The prices they offered were for Air Deccan.
Flight Options: Ezeego gave good options. The surprising aspect was the prices of some of the options exceeded Rs. 2800/-. I am not sure how their algorithm works, but these kind of results have to be filtered out.
Destinations available: Ezeego also offered most of the destinations in India.
User Friendliness: Ezeego was neither bad nor very user friendly. The prices displayed were quite confusing. However, I arrived at booking screen in 2 clicks.
Others service: They offer most of the other services that a traveler may require and hence high marks on that front.

Destinations available: Cleartrip also offered most of the destinations in India.
User Friendliness: ClearTrip was one of the most user friendly and easy to use site. within One click the screen showed the best options after calculating the taxes.
Others service: Unlike most of the other sites ClearTrip only offered hotels other than travel booking.

As online portals are going retail so that they can reach non net users.
I just booked a trip from yatra.com and not only do they have great customer service, but I find that they offer the same packages as makemytrip.com only a lot more cheaper. Besides, I had to call makemytrip.com more than 4 times, to get a quote, and email the rep 3 times! The overall service was not at all personal or friendly as Yatra.com. I think makemytrip.com needs to pull up their socks up, because they definitly lost my business (which by the way was by no means a cheap package) but the price and service given to me by Yatra leads by a 100%

I also did my research on all the OTA’s and found yatra to be best as they always provide some sort of discount. i picked up 50% off on hotels last month. ixigo is good but they are not Online Travel company but they show rates of all airlines and couple of other online agents. Then they transfer you to thier site to complete the booking. They should do thier own fullfilment rather then sending to other people.

Looks like the readers /contributors have a real understanding of the scope of the travel agencies. We just started off a new webportal tailored to meet the requirements of the travelling public from US to INDIA and back.
During our initial pilot, we had enquires flowing in but to keep our honest with us customer expectations, we were taking the cut in our commissions to award a ticket.
I wish to ask the contributor, if there is a way to balance the projectedfare (on which our customer visit us) with the actual fares when the ticket is purchased. As you would see in our site link,http://www.esavari.com we estimate the fares by seasonal zones which is fast changing due to the sudden spike in travel agents reservations.
Do you think, we should drop the idea since what we see from makemytrip and competing sites, they claim to offer realtime prices. In addition what would happen to our travel agents ?? ( minus the online travel vendors).

I am sure that the CT site would win hands down. I say this not because of Paper Plane’s past experience with Thomas Cook (TC), or role in seeding CT, but because the site performs really well (search speed) and provides a delightful experience (clean UI). Their back-end processes may cause some amount of heartache, but start-up’s generally have teething problems…
Daksh, I think you should consider user experience design/strategy as a parameter in any site evaluation in the future. With respect to the Indian online travel industry, I feel CT will be a clear leader as a result of the user experience the site is able to deliver. Price is becoming less of any issue with all agents selling tickets within a small price band.
